General Questions
There is no cost to the general public for classes offered. However there are classes for workshops, concerts, fundraisers, and special events.

ADDPA’s Kai-fecc Community-Based Arts and Cultural Program will offer the following quality programs to the Greater Flint Community: Cosaan – West African Drum & Dance Resource Youth Moves Is On The Move – Summer Camp for youth in Public Housing Kuungana – 3 day Conference, Matinee for Youth with disabilities, Concert for the general public featuring International Artists. Baada Shule After School Program – African Drum & Dance Classes offered after school at Public Housing Complexes, Traditional and Charter Schools Manufacturing Facility – Participants build and repair African drums, design jewelry and accessories. This grant will fund artists, supplies, equipment and operational fees.
The African Drum & Dance Parent Association (ADDPA) is a non-profit community based organization founded in 1992 by Kevin Collins. Students, aged 2 through adult, are instructed in the art of West African Drum and Dance. They receive lessons on African history, culture, and entrepreneurial skills (e.g. drum repair, drum making, creating African shakers (Shakaree) from gourds, jewelry and belt making). Mentoring services are also provided. As students become proficient in the art of drum and dance, they showcase their skills in colorful and vibrant performances around the City, County and State.
We are very proud of our accomplishments and are expanding our services by offering a new instrumental music program. In order for this program to be successful, ADDPA will need an assortment of musical instruments. We need your support and help. Staff is asking our Community partners to donate used or new musical instruments of all varieties to our program. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

Activities will include West African Drum and Dance Classes, building and repairing African Drums, fabric art-designing African Costumes, designing jewelry and making other accessories. We believe that all children, regardless of their abilities, should have the opportunity to participate in drumming and dance.
We believe participants should be provided with quality instruction by Professional Artists
We believe that both adult and youth participants will become knowledgeable of the West African Culture and gain an appreciation for other customs and traditions.

We believe youth will improve listening skills, academic performance, and behavior by engaging in drumming and dance activities.
We believe youth participants will gain self-awareness, self-esteem and respect for peers while developing leadership, employability and entrepreneurial skills.
We believe through the organization’s commitment to providing a loving, nurturing, and safe environment, juvenile delinquency will be deterred, participants’ grade point averages will increase, and teen pregnancies be reduced.
We have identified events to bridge the “parental involvement gap in their child’s participation in our programs as well as assisting in unifying the family structure through the Arts.
